An Aggregation/Disaggregation Algorithm for Transit Planning Problem

Abstract

We propose an iterative aggregation/disaggregation scheme for solving transit planning problem in a large scale network. The aggregation algorithm solves a graph coarsening problem with input from the previous disaggregation solution. Then a peer-to-peer ride-matching problem is solved on the coarsened graph. The disaggregation algorithm disaggregates the solution of the ride-matching problem to the uncoarsened graph. The aggregation/disaggregation scheme is designed to guarantee the convergenece over iterations.
